Terms of Reference for HERAN

HERAN is open to:

1) Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) working on (or interested in working on) projects for refugees and asylum seekers and are committed to improving access for this group
2) Representatives of voluntary and statutory agencies who are invited to participate

Focus of activities:

We aim to address the widening participation agenda within UK universities by focussing on access to higher education and support in higher education for refugees and asylum seekers. To do this, we meet twice a year and exchange information through the HERAN website and the members’ e-mail list. Our specific focus is on:

1) Discussion and exchange of information
2) Identification and sharing good practice
3) Monitoring trends and regulations related to refugees and asylum seekers and higher education, lobbying policy-makers where necessary
4) Providing information, raising awareness, promoting examples of good practice and encouraging exchange through the HERAN website and through occasional conferences
5) Linking with other networks involved with Higher Education and widening participation

Expectations of members:

1) Attend HERAN meetings
2) Participate in e-mail discussions
3) Read and comment on any policy statements or other lobbying initiatives that are going out in HERAN’s name
4) Support HERAN conferences
